Many question Jesus’ authority and to what extent, if any? At his baptism, Matthew 17: 5; Mark 9: 7; Luke 9: 35 recorded a voice saying this is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased; listen to him. This suggests that he had God’s approval to be in his stead. Can God be limited? The answer is no! It is not too late to turn back to Jesus Christ who has God’s authority in all our circumstances.

Knowledge of the fact and truth about the authority of Jesus Christ should heal our doubts and misconceptions. It will also restore us back to Jesus Christ who is waiting with open hands to receive us, bless us, and secure us in his precious blood and in the bosom of the Father. We have prayed to the Lord to aid us in this discourse about the second part of Jesus’ authority.

1. Authority to save and to rescue – Matthew 1: 21 says she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus for he will save his people from their sins. See also Luke 19: 10; John 10: 9; 12: 47; Acts 2: 21; 4: 12; 16: 31; Romans 5: 9; 10: 9-10; 2 Timothy 4: 18.

2. Authority to conquer Satan – Revelation 12: 10-12 say and I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

3. Authority to expose Satan – Colossians 2: 15 says he disarmed the principalities and powers and made a public example of them, triumphing over them in him.

4. Authority for the keys of heaven – Matthew 16: 19 says I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loose in heaven.

5. Authority for the keys of death – Revelation 1: 17-18 say fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one; I died, and behold I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.

6. Authority to own life and death – John 10: 17 says for this reason, the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. Read also John 11: 25.

7. Authority to release captives – Luke 4: 18-19 says the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.( Read also Ephesians 4: 8).

8. Authority to provide Grace – Ephesians 2: 8 says for by grace have you been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God – not because of works, lest any man should boast. Read also 2 Corinthians 12: 9.

9. Authority to caution mankind – Matthew 7: 15 says beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. See also Chapter 10: 16; Luke 10: 3; Acts 20: 29-30.

10. Authority to make promise – John 14: 13-14 say whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it. Read also Chapter 15: 16; 16: 23, 24, 26.

11. Authority to grant fullness of life – Colossians 2: 10 says and you have come to the fullness of life in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

12. Authority over all creation – Matthew 8: 27; Mark 4: 41 says what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?

13. Authority to restore our peace – John 14: 27 says peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives to I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. Read also Mark 4: 39.

14. Authority to refresh our souls – Acts 3: 19 says repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord. Read also Philemon 1: 20.

15. Authority as Light of the world – John 1: 4-5 says in him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Read also John 8: 12; 9: 5; 12: 46.

16. Authority to show God’s way – Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, but by me. John 10:8 says all those who came before me are thieves and robbers.

These examples are the least we can say about the authority of Jesus Christ. What is our challenge and to whom will we go to attend to us? Ephesians 3: 20 says now in him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly that all that we ask or think to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen. Surely, Jesus Christ is able, let us come to him. 1 Thessalonians 5: 21 says but test everything; hold fast what is good.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, we invite you to speak your authority into our lives to restore us in you. Grant us your eternal peace to be faithful in righteousness. Keep us under the shadow of your authority and cover our defenseless lives with the shadow of your wings. In your precious holy name, Amen!!
