We wish all our readers and the entire world a very happy new year! And we pray for the best for each and every one in the new year. May the peace of Christ, his joy, his mercy, his grace and his unfailing love   be our strength and fill our year as we faithfully relate with him lifting his name in holiness in our lives. May the Lord’s countenance bring us a very Happy New Year.

Certainty of our new year wishes

We celebrate the new year by wishing our dear ones a wonderful year. A wish is not certain but a hope of good tidings in the unknown future. Certainty of our wishes for the new year must be predicated on absolute knowledge of future events. This leaves our wishes without certainty except with Christ Jesus. The new year is not under our control but the one who made it. Jesus confirmed in John 15: 5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. We need Jesus to succeed (bear fruit) in the new year, 2026.

Certainty of the new year in Christ Jesus

Jesus said in Matthew 6: 34, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. New year is presumed to have a fresh start, hence, it is called “New”. However, in truth, only Christ Jesus can make it new or fresh. Paul said in 2Corinthians 5: 17, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come. The old has gone, the new is here! A new creation starts with ourselves personally. Repeating our old ways cannot produce new results. A renewed relationship with Christ Jesus will produce new results, and allow for a true new year in his name.

Supposition for the new year

A new year presupposes that we will not carry our past failures or setbacks into the new year. This is what Jesus said in Luke 9: 62, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.” We are to look forward to Christ Jesus in the new year, never visiting our past disappointments or failures. To be fit for the unknown future, we need God’s grace. Ecclesiastes 3: 11 says, he has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. We pray that the Lord Jesus will reveal the beauty of the new year to us in our hearts as we continue to focus on him.

How do we start the new year?

God told the Israelites in Leviticus 26: 3-4, “If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. It is instructive to read Leviticus 26: 1-13. God also warned them in Leviticus 26: 14-16, “But if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands… I will bring you sudden terror, wasting diseases and fever and will destroy your sight and sap your strength. Though the new year may bring sudden terrors, Isaiah 40:31 says, those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on the wings like eagles; they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not faint.

God’s priorities for the new year

Jesus said in Matthew 6: 33, strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. We must start the year with God and his righteousness for success to follow. A successful new year is by God’s sovereign grace. On the cross, Jesus prayed in Matthew 26: 42; may your will be done. Paul quoted in Romans 9: 15-16, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. May our priorities be right in the new year so Christ Jesus will be with us.

Reflection

God said in Revelation 1: 8 says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.” It is only Jesus, who is to come who knows God’s plan for our lives. Jeremiah 29: 11 says, for I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. May we begin and end the new year with Christ Jesus in his holy name. May our wishes always be pleasing to God through Christ Jesus.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, we commit the new year into your hands as we wish ourselves and dear ones, the best in all circumstances. We acknowledge that our future lies in your hands. Be our Lord and help us throughout the year, to be holy not with our lips only but in our hearts as well. Let our year and future be bright to fulfil your plan of hope for us. We pray in your Holy name, Amen!!
