The Lord is seeking for those who would be his mouth piece to the sinful world. Jesus said in Matthew 6: 37; Luke 10: 2 the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Many have volunteered with their mouths but not with their hearts. Others have volunteered for reasons other than the Lord’s. Jesus knows the genuine ones for he said in Matthew 15: 8-9 this people honours me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.
The last words of David said in 2Samuel 23: 2, the spirit of the LORD speaks through me, his word is upon my tongue. David was privileged to have God speak through him for he always desired to please God. He had prayed in Psalms 51: 15, O LORD, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. When God gives us utterance, it is for his praise and his word. David explained in Psalms 71: 15, my mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all day long, though their number is past my knowledge.
David did not ask God to speak through him for his personal glory. He said in Psalms 89: 1, I will sing of your steadfast love, O LORD, forever; with my mouth I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. God’s steadfast love does not only manifest in his deeds but also what he has spoken yet unknown. Psalms 119: 13 says, with my lips I declare all the ordinances of your mouth. Does God speak through us?
Why does God speak through us?
God speaks through us to reveal his truth. John 8: 32 says you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. We become God’s channels for propagating his word of truth by which our souls are saved. God speaks through us to caution us so we do not go wrong; and to caution others going wrong. In effect God speaks through us so we would maintain holiness as he is holy. God always wants us to be part of his messages to the world so we would benefit from them.
The bible says in 1Peter 1: 15-16, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; for it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” We read further in 1Peter 2: 5, like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Like salt, we must first be preserved so we would give flavor to others. Jesus said in Matthew 5: 13, “You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? We are God’s channels to convey his message to the world. Are we available for him?
Why God does not speak through us
God will not speak through us if our desire is for an ungodly or self-centered purpose. Ezekiel 3: 7 says, have you not seen a false vision or uttered a lying divination, when you have said, “Says the LORD,” even though I did not speak? Some of us proffer statements and falsely attribute them to God. Such utterances and conduct are not from God and he will not speak through such hearts.
On the contrary, Paul said in Romans 15: 18 for I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed. Paul purposed to speak only what was the truth. Peter also said in 1Peter 4: 11, whoever speaks must do so as one speaking the very words of God. Whatever we attribute must be the truth, not lies. Jesus said in Matthew 12: 36, I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter.
Jesus also said in Matthew 12: 32 whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Lying against Jesus has accountability and consequences. No mouth can claim to be for Christ yet speak untruths. Jesus said in Matthew 6: 24; Luke 16: 13; no one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. God wants truthful persons so he can speak through them. Are we ready?
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, we have come to you knowing that the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few. We are ready to be part of the channels for your invitation to the world of sin for the harvest. Please, speak through us as it will be pleasing for your work. Give us the grace to commit to your will and pleasure on this mission to which we now devote ourselves. Help us to avoid what will obstruct us from your instructions. We pray in your holy name, Amen!!
