God is the God of the hills and the valleys. He made them all. Isaiah 44: 24 says I am the LORD, who made all things, who stretched out the heavens alone, who spread out the earth-Who was with me? Isaiah 66: 2 says all these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the LORD. A manufacturer owns what s/he has produced until it is transferred to someone else.

However, not everyone believes that God is God of the hills and of the valleys. 1 Kings 20: 28 says, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because the Syrians have said, ‘The LORD is a god of the hills but he is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.”  We must therefore be extremely cautious when we are tempted to question God’s authority.

God of the hills

Hills and mountains are used interchangeably in scripture and both mean the high point in our lives. God of the hills therefore means God of our contentment, visible or nonvisible. It refers to the following character of God:

God of divine help

Hills refer to sources of God’s help. Psalms 121: 1-2 says I will lift up my eyes to the hills. From whence does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. God is our help and has been so throughout the ages. It is time to acknowledge that our God is the source of all help. His help enables us to be overcomers and peaks our strides to his glory and honour.

God of the hills provides answers to all circumstances. Matthew 11: 28 says come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. The high points in life are achievable by prayer led by the Holy Spirits. Romans 8: 26 says likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. We must pray in the serenity of our hearts.

God of transformation

Matthew 17: 1-3; Mark 9: 2-3 say Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain apart. And he (Jesus) was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his garments became white as light. At the height of their discipleship, Jesus exposed Peter, James and John to his transformation power of life hereafter. Only God can transform our circumstances in his presence only by divine encounter.

Exodus 34: 29 says when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. When God’s presence overshadows us, we become different persons sometimes without our knowing. Have we encountered God through Jesus Christ?

God above all powers

1 Timothy 6: 15 describes Jesus as blessed and only sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. Isaiah 2: 2; Micah 4: 1 says it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it.

The house of God is above every mountain in our lives. God is also the owner of the house as the King of kings and Lord of lords. His authority is higher than the hills and greater than its splendor. He dwells above our knowledge and powers. What power(s) rules our lives?

The God of the valleys

It means our low points in life include perverting his truth. Luke 3: 5-6 says every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; and all flesh shall see the salvation of God. God is able to level all our valleys to his glory and honour. In extent, God of the valleys refreshes the weary and those in despair.

Psalms 23: 4 says though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. He provides raiment as Songs of Solomon 2: 1-2 say I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys. As a lily among brambles, so is my love among maidens. Jesus said in Matthew 6: 28; Luke 12: 27, and why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin; yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. This includes his character as follows:

God of nourishment

From the valleys, we get our feed. However our spiritual food comes from Christ Jesus. John 6: 33 says for the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world. John 6: 51 says Jesus is the living bread which comes from heaven. John 6: 33, 48 says I am the bread of life. Jesus is ready to feed our bodies and souls if we will allow him to do so for us.

God of decision

Joel 3: 14 says multitudes, multitudes, in the valley of decision! For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. In our valleys of life, we must invite God to aid us in our decision(s). When the lights in our eyes are gone; when our hopes are emptied; when our paths are darkened; the God of the valleys manifests as God.

Lamentations 5: 19 says but thou, O LORD, dost reign for ever, thy throne endures to all generations. Revelation 1: 8 says I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 21: 6 says I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. Revelation 22: 13 says I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end. Revelation 3: 11 says behold I am coming soon; hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. (Read also Revelation 22: 7, 12, 20). Are we ready to meet the God of the hills and the valleys?

Prayer

Dear Lord God Almighty by whom Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour and eternal judge, we acknowledge you as God of the hills and God of the valleys in our lives. We apologize for failing to give you the deserving honour. Forgive us and cleanse us in the precious blood of Christ Jesus. We acknowledge you with thanks for your unfailing promises. See us through in your holy name, Amen!!
