The word of God comes to us in many forms, orally, written, in dreams, vision, etc. Sadly, a number of us either fail to read the bible or put ourselves in readiness to hear from God. God brings us his word because he loves us and wants to protect us from the enemy. We decry God’s word because we do not know its value or benefits. Here are a few among unlimited examples in the bible as follows:
God’s word is our lamp and light
David said in Psalms 119: 105, your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. We grope in a world of spiritual darkness. We patronize dangerous places because we are spiritually blind to the spiritual darkness paths of life. King David had similar experiences and upon examining all other possible solutions, came with an irresistible conclusion that only God can guard his feet from stumbling or falling with his unfailing light. When the way is dark, we must call Christ Jesus who is God’s ordained light.
God’s word is life unto us
King Solomon said in Proverbs 4: 4, “Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. We did not create ourselves so we do not fully know or understand the rules of this life. God’s word spiritually ensures life because his word which is God himself is not perishable. Jesus said in Matthew 24: 35; Mark 13: 31; Luke 21: 33, heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. Jesus said in John 3: 36 whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God’s wrath. He said also in John 6: 63, it is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. God’s word must be our daily food.
God’s word keeps us pure
David said in Psalms 119: 11, I treasure your word in my heart, so that I may not sin against you. God’s word is part of his nature hence not blemish. If we keep God’s word in our hearts, it will transform our lives and keep us away from iniquity. If we fail to do that, evil will take its place in our hearts and sin will dominate our lives. We must choose one of the two options. We cannot serve God and Satan; righteousness and sin at the same time and under one roof. Jesus said in Matthew 6: 24; Luke 16: 13, “No one can serve two masters. What fills our hearts will lead us to its destination, hell or heaven.
God’s word tells the future
God’s word has always been our guide into the future. It tells us what God expects from us, future events and how to prepare. Every life we lead has its reward. Paul said in Romans 6: 23, for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. In explaining further, Paul said in Acts 17: 31, God has fixed a day on which he will have the world judged in righteousness by a man (Christ Jesus) whom he has appointed, and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead. In affirmation, Jesus said in Revelation 3: 11, I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. The future is as important as today. We must come to Jesus now.
God’s word averts us from danger
God warned Adam and Eve before their fall from grace in disobedience. God said in Genesis 2: 17, but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die. Jesus said in Matthew 10: 15; 11: 22, 24 truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the Day of Judgment than for that town. Jesus also said in Matthew 12: 36, I tell you, on the Day of Judgment you will have to give account for every careless word you utter. Paul said in Romans 2: 5, but by your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. Some breaches of God’s word have irreversible consequences of death, rejection, pain and sorrow. We must be wise to avert the danger.
God’s word enables soul-winning
Jesus wants all to be saved. He spoke by the angel to the disciples in Acts 5: 20, “G, stand in the temple and tell the people the whole message about this life.” Go sends his messengers to speak to us about this life in the church. Our priority must be to save lives from perishing. Jesus said in Mark 16: 15, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation. The purpose of proclaiming the word is to save lives from perishing. Jesus said in Mark 8: 36, for what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life? We must do what is appropriate before God. Jesus said in Matthew 9: 37; Luke 10: 2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Have we joined the labourers upon God’s call?
God’s word leads us to the truth
Truth is God’s nature because he does not tell lies. Numbers 23: 19 say God is not a human being, that he should lie, or a mortal, that he should change his mind. Has he promised, and will he not do it? Has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it? God’s truth sanctifies us. John 17: 17 says sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. It is the truth of the word by which we may live and enjoy the peace of God through Christ Jesus our Lord. By the same word of truth, our souls are also freed. John 8: 32 says and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. God wants us to listen to Jesus if we are to appreciate his word. Matthew 17: 5; Mark 9: 7; 12: 27; Luke 9: 35, “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased, listen to him! Do we pick and choose what Jesus says or we accept him as God says?
