We refer to the Lord God Almighty as an awesome God because His feats are incomprehensible to man and his deeds and nature are above all things visible and invisible in heaven and earth and throughout creation. We have unlimited reasons and biblical references to attest to this fact.

An invincible God

2 Samuel 22: 51 says God gives great triumphs to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his descendants. He will make us also victorious if we lean on him in obedience of heart and in faith through Christ Jesus. He is the owner of victory. Matthew 12: 20-21 says he will not break a bruised reed or quench a smoldering wick, till he brings justice to victory; and in his name will the Gentiles hope.  All battles are his for 1 Samuel 17:47 says for the battle is the Lord’s.

God therefore says in Psalms 50:15 call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me. Romans 10:13 says for every one who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Proverbs 18:10 says the name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runs into it, and is safe. He is the owner of life and gives to whom he wants, John 11: 25. He has swallowed death in victory, 1 Corinthians 15: 54-551 Corinthians 15: 57 says thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. All power and glory belong to him, Revelation 4: 11; 7: 12; 19: 1.

Isaiah 64: 4 says from of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides thee, who works for those who wait for him. What battles do we face that our awesome God of wonders and victory cannot win for us? We only must accept his Son Jesus Christ and obey his words. Isaiah 59: 2 says behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear, but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you so that he does not hear. The Lord God is battle ready if we are.

Psalms 68: 4 says sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds; his name is the Lord, exult before him! He makes his greatness visible in earthquakes, Isaiah 29: 6; smoke, Isaiah 30: 27; thunder and lightning, Exodus 19: 16; and in thick clouds, Exodus 19: 9. Will we submit to God’s Lordship in honour and majesty as the King of kings, and the Lord of Lords?

Awesome in love

God created us in his own image because he loved us, Genesis 1: 27. God thinks well of us. He said in Jeremiah 29 for I know the plans I have for you, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. He sent Christ Jesus to rescue us from death to everlasting life. Jesus said in John 10:10, I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly. Luke 19:10 also says, for the Son of man came to seek and to save the lost. Aside from saving us, he gave us his grace. Jesus said in 2 Corinthians 12:9, my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

We are therefore qualified for favours which we are ordinarily disqualified from receiving from God. He has promised through Christ Jesus in John 14:13-14 that whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son; if you ask anything in my name, I will do it. John 16:24 also says hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. Upon experience and evidence, Paul said in Philippians 4: 19, and my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. This is a carte blanche for us.

God has made divine provision for our restoration through Christ Jesus. Jesus said in Luke 5: 32, I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 1 John 1:8-9 say if we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God is always ready to receive a penitent soul. Revelation 3: 20 says behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

For the love of God for us which was manifested through Christ Jesus, John 15:13 says greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Romans 8:35-38 say nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

God is delighted to preserve our lives. Colossians 3: 3 says for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Jesus also says in John 17: 12, while I was with them, I kept them in thy name, which you have given me; I have guarded them, and none of them is lost but the Son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled. Psalms 91: 1 says he who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust. For us to experience God’s awesome love, we must abide in his shadow in obedience to his call.

Prayer

Our Father in heaven, your invincibility puts you above all things visible and invisible. In our weaknesses, please make us strong through grace. Through Christ Jesus, please be our companion when we are lonely; our courage when we are in fear; our faith when in doubt; our healing when we are sick; our deliverance in times of affliction; and our salvation in our thirst for righteousness. Thou awesome God, I thy holy name we pray through your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen!!
