The closer we get to Jesus, the better we experience the depth of his love. Paul wrote in Romans 5: 15 for if the many died through the one man’s trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many. Jesus loves all of us whether we are sinners or not till the date of judgment. 1 John 4: 16 says God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them.

The nature of Jesus’ love

God’s love for us is the same as Jesus’ love for us, steadfast and faithful. John 15: 13 says no one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. In spite of our rebellion, he intercedes for us. Romans 8: 34 says it is Christ Jesus, who died, yes, who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.

He keeps his promises. In Psalms 25: 10 all the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees. His love is not measurable. Psalms 36: 5; 57: 10 say your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the havens, your faithfulness to the clouds

Jesus’ love is forever. Psalms 89: 2 says I declare that your steadfast love is established forever; your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens. He does not show partiality in his love. We read from Psalms 100: 5, for the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. God always renews his love for it is written in Lamentations 3: 22-23 the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

In Christ Jesus is the fullness of God’s love. Paul wrote in Colossians 1: 19-20, for in him all the fullness of God pleased to dwell and through him God was pleased to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.  God’s love is not conditional. In Romans 5: 8 God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners, Christ died for us. He loves both sinners and the righteous yet hates sin. Jesus loves us for many reasons as follows;

He does not want us to perish

Christ Jesus does not want us to perish in eternity in hell fire prepared for the devil and his angels. It is written in John 3: 16-17 that for God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Jesus’ mission was to save the world through love.

He is in charge of our souls

Jesus loves us because God has made him in charge of our souls. Jesus said in John 6: 37-39, everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes to me I will never drive away; for  I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.  Jesus loves us because it is his accepted task to love us until the final day of reckoning.

We were originally part of him

Jesus loves us because we are an inseparable part of him. He is to graft us back to himself when we separate from him because he does not want us to lose our divine identity or divine nature. Paul wrote in Romans 11: 24 for if you have been cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these natural branches be grafted back into their own olive tree. Jesus wants to restore us back to himself.

We are of value to him

Jesus loves us because we are valuable to him. It is written in Matthew 6: 26; Luke 12: 24, look at the birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Jesus also said in Matthew 10: 31; Luke 12: 7 so do not be afraid; you are of more value than many sparrows. We show better value when we obey him.

We were made in his image

God loves us because we were created in his image to reflect his glory. Genesis 1: 27 says so God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Because we were created to reflect God’s image, he gave us power to superintend over his creation. David wrote in Psalms 8: 4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Do we reflect God’s image of holiness, purity and truth?

His nature is love

Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 2: 3-4 this is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.  It is also written in 1 John 4: 19, we love because he first loved us. Jesus said in John 13: 34…, just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. Read also John 15: 12, 17

How God shows his love

God shows his love through Christ Jesus. 1 John 4: 9 says God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. He is the only name by which we can receive forgiveness. Acts 4: 12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved. Do we love Jesus as he loves us?
