Spiritually, sin is placated with an offering, usually unblemished live blood. Only Jesus has unblemished blood. Hebrews 4: 15 says… we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are- yet he did not sin. The one who overcame sin in every way is the one qualified as an offering for sin. He is also the only qualified one to help us out of or away from sin. Hebrews 2: 18 says, because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Isaiah 53: 10-12 said, it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore, I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. We will dilate Isaiah’s key prophetic words and phrases about Jesus:
He will be crushed and he will suffer
Jesus was crushed, and he suffered, not by coincidence, but by the Lord’s will as Isaiah prophesied. The fact of his crushing and suffering is mentioned in Matthew 16: 21; Mark 8: 31; Luke 9: 22, Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. His suffering is also mentioned in Matthew 17: 12; Mark 9: 12; Luke 17: 25.
Citing the prophesy, Jesus said in Luke 24: 26, did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory? Jesus also said of Paul in Acts 9: 16, I will show him how much he must suffer for my name. To all believers, Paul said in 1Thessalonians 5: 9, for it (salvation) has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him. We are also made an offering through sacrifice for others for the sake of Christ Jesus to save their souls as Christ did for us by God’s will for us.
He will be an offering for sin
God made Jesus an offering for sin as Isaiah foretold because he had no sin. Early in the days of John the Baptist, he said of Jesus in John 1: 29, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! In affirmation, Paul said in 1Corinthians 5: 7, for Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Jesus was an offering for a good reason. Revelation 5: 12, in a loud voice they were saying, “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise!”
Aside from the power etc. as above, as the Passover lamb, he took away our sins. Romans 6: 10 says, the death he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God. God made Jesus a sin for us so he died with our sins as well. By his death, our sins did not only end, but were forgiven as well. 2Corinthians 5: 21 says, God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Unless by the offered blood of Jesus for sin, no sinner will attain righteousness in God.
He will see his offspring with long days
Isiah said by the offering of Jesus for sin, he will witness our prolonged days. In truth, by Jesus’ death on the cross, we have eternal life through him. He indeed was a witness to this even whilst he was in this world. Jesus said in John 10:10, I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly. Emphasizing this fact, Jesus said in John 11: 26, everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Christ Jesus witnessed prolonged souls of many through salvation in his ministry.
Jesus said to his disciples in Luke 10: 20, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. In Jesus, we have prolonged life as he said to Martha in John 11: 25-26, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Only Jesus can prolong life, which is eternal life, and without him, there is none but death. 1John 5: 12 says whoever has the Son has life, whoever does not have the Son does not have life. Outside or without Jesus, we are dead in spirit.
His hand will prosper by the Lord
As the offering for sin, God prospered Jesus’ ministry and all he did. Those who become an offering to others will likewise prosper in Christ Jesus. In Matthew 9: 21; Mark 6: 56, those who touched his cloak were healed. Those with diseases also pushed forward to touch him, Mark 3: 10. The blind were healed in Mark 8: 22. All who touched him were healed by the power which came from him, Luke 6: 19.
All who are covered by the will of God prosper. Ephesians 4: 8, “When he ascended on high, he took many captives and gave gifts to his people. The psalmist also said in Psalm 146: 7, the Lord sets prisoners free. This was why Jesus came just as he read in Luke 4: 18, the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour. How are we touching the lives of others? What is our mission on earth?
He will justify many in righteousness
Upon being an offering for sin, he had power to justify many as righteous as Isaiah said. He bore our iniquities to the cross; nailed it on the cross; died and rose triumphantly with justification for all who received him as Lord and Saviour. John 1: 12-13 writes, to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
As an offering for sin, he bore our iniquities by pouring out his life unto death for us, and was numbered with the transgressors. God therefore elevated him to his right hand to intercede for us as the greatest of the greats; and to share the glory of their spoils. Romans 8: 34 says, Christ Jesus who died… was raised to life- is at the right hand of God and is interceding for us. Is Jesus an offering for our sin? Are we justified in righteous living based on his offering? 1John 1: 8-10 say if we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. May Jesus’ offering for sin be our righteousness in him.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus Christ, let your offering for sin wash away our sins in your blood; save our souls; and make us anew in your righteousness. We pray in your blessed Holy name, Amen!!
